Blackmail

By Michael Stokes

Crime & mystery, Thriller | Paperback, eBook

"Blackmail" tells the story of a determined group of criminals who commit what they think is the perfect crime, but as things unravel and the policeman progress, desperate measures are called for. Arrests are made and DNA found at the scene of the crime is matched to one of the gang. But is it admissible in evidence? It was matched from a profile voluntarily given in an exclusion exercise. Can the judge be persuaded to rule it inadmissible? What sort of pressure can be placed on the judge to make sure he rules in favour of the defence? And who is bringing that pressure to bear? What is the real motive for blackmailing the judge? All will be revealed in this chilling crime thriller. The author brings his knowledge and experience of real crime and real criminals to the fore, demonstrating that tension and unpredictability can be achieved without departing from realism and an accurate portrayal of the legal system. With DNA, cell site analysis and improved forensic techniques, many of the devices employed by crime writers in the past are no longer tenable. "Blackmail' shows that chills and thrills can still be conjured, and twists and turns fox the most astute of readers.
