Blood in the Ground

By Robert Paul Blumenstein

General fiction, Action & adventure, Paranormal, Religion & spirituality | Paperback, Hardback, eBook

Blood in the Ground is the third book of the Ascension Trilogy. In this suspense filled adventure, Peyton Costello has delivered Opossum to the authorities to serve justice for the murders of Peyton’s parents. However, Opossum intends to have the last word. While he awaits the final day for his sentence to be carried out, the vile creature plots his vengeance against Peyton. The stakes are high: supremacy over the spiritual world set upon the battlefield of humanity. The decisive engagement begins…

In Blood in the Ground, I chose to excavate a few haunts where ghosts still stir about and tell their tales. Portions of the dialog in the Jamestown scenes are quoted from actual historic records. I reconstructed the state penitentiary that once sat squarely in the middle of downtown. The old state penitentiary on Spring Street was the place where Virginia’s death house stood where many a soul met their end at the hand of the state. Ironically, when the penitentiary was razed, the skeletal remains of some thirty-nine people were discovered on the prison grounds. There were no records or names associated with those bones. There’s little doubt in my mind that those spirits walk the streets of Richmond to this very day. However, Blood in the Ground is not a historic account of Richmond’s past, or mine. It’s a tale of the endgame of a spiritual chess match. I’ve never met a real person like Peyton Costello. I only hope that one day I will. I wrote Blood in the Ground and the Ascension Trilogy to honor a man like Peyton. A man of love and forgiveness, a man of conviction who stands by the principles he believes no matter how insurmountable the obstacles may appear. I believe Peyton would want our country to reconcile itself with love and seek forgiveness for the blood spilled on American soil, our Eden. For as Peyton once said, “Recognition of sin is the first step to redemption.”
