This policy is effective from 19th December 2014.
We gather information to understand your needs and to provide you with a better quality of service. In particular, we use your information for the following:
- Internal record-keeping
- Registration issues
- Informing you of changes in service, including new website features
iAuthor is committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. iAuthor is built on the Joomla! platform, using their most recent LTS. This means it implements all the security features of Joomla! in its core. As such, we can follow and keep up with all non-zero-day exploits in our relevant software, and patch any security issues. As an example, the heartbleed bug was fixed for iAuthor on the same day that the exploit was announced to the public, and a OpenSSL patch was available. iAuthor is protected from internal hacking by FastCGI running in sandboxes, XSS-attacks prevented by HTML-filtering, and database injections prevented by prepared SQL statements.
Like all online social platforms, iAuthor uses traffic log cookies to identify which site pages are being visited most. Google Analytics (GA) – the most widely used website statistics service – helps us analyse data about web page traffic, and further enhances our website by tailoring it to customers' needs. Google Analytics cookies store anonymous information such as whether a visitor has been to the site before (new or returning visitor), the timestamp of the current visit, and the referrer site that directed the visitor to iAuthor. Google Analytics in no way gives us access to your personally identifiable information.
iAuthor also uses session cookies. These are essential for the site's smooth operation while a user is logged in, allowing you to move from page to page without having to log-in repeatedly. Session cookies are widely used by sophisticated e-commerce sites (for example, to keep track of items that a consumer has added to their shopping cart). Session cookies are transient – Web browsers automatically delete them when the user closes their browser. Additionally, session cookies do NOT collect any personally identifiable information from the user's computer.
Warning: disabling session cookies entirely will prevent you from taking full advantage of the website. Sign-up and book creation will be severely compromised.
Our website contains links to other websites. If you use such a link and leave our site, please note that we do not have any control over external websites you visit. Consequently, we cannot be responsible for the protection or privacy of any information you provide while visiting such sites. You should exercise caution, and look at the privacy statement applicable to the website in question.
We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties without your express permission. You should be aware that if we are requested by the police or any other regulatory or government authority investigating suspected illegal acitivities to provide your personal information and/or user information, we are bound to do so.
