By Gail Matelson

Sci-Fi, Children's, Environment & nature, Magical realism, Fantasy, Comedy & satire | Paperback, eBook

Laugh out loud when Lily discovers that her favorite tree is able to communicate by sending down leaf messages. The messages land in her hand and on her head, and are funny and sometimes serious opinions expressed by the tree. Accustomed to the tree's peculiarities after one year, Lily and her mom are astonished when Tree informs them that there is yet another surprise to be found in their backyard. Twelve-year-old, Lily, and her mom are already experiencing a surreal-like friendship with the tree, but this new being, from another world, draws them into a deeper mystery, one that they must help solve. They will discover how the tree and this new being are related, and how the tiny being found its way to Lily's backyard. At the same time, Lily experiences her first real friendship with a boy named Tom Darnel. Now she must decide whether to reveal the almost sci-fi, extraterrestrial, nature of her backyard to him. Can he keep a secret? This creative story has also been developed for younger readers in, "You, Me and the Tree."

It wasn't until I returned from a year-long, solo driving trip around the United States that I wrote my first book, a personal memoir that I haven't as yet published. Thoroughly enjoying the experience of writing, I spontaneously wrote my first mystery novel. The experience was so 'novel', the characters so willing to tell their own story, that I never stopped writing. Twenty books and seventeen years later, my unique stories cover a wide spectrum, from metaphysical fiction in "Last 90 Days, Archie Trilogy Book 1," and magical realism in "Between the Trees," to a murder mystery in "The Building." Blending opposing genres, my stories have inspiring stories of transformation, as well as psychological, humorous, metaphysical and/or romantic threads woven into the plots.
