Moish and the Mob and Other Short Fiction

By Raanan Geberer

Short stories | Paperback, eBook

Moish and Shmooey, two not-so-nice Jewish boys, grew up in the Depression-era Bronx, idolizing gangsters like Al Capone and Dutch Schultz. Now it’s 1940, and a local hoodlum has taken them under his wing, giving them a crash course in burglary, arson, and gambling. Finally, he gives them a long-awaited opportunity to do a “big job.” Can they do it? Meanwhile, Hitler’s war in Europe keeps growing closer…. The characters in the book's other stories range from a singing dentist to an elderly jazz musician obsessed with old apartment buildings to a New Age mystic who runs out of luck.

Raanan Geberer is a journalist who lives in New York City with his wife, Rhea, and his cat, Bonnie. His hobbies include playing rock music with friends, writing fiction, working out at the gym, vegetable gardening, photography, and anything involving trains. His other books include The Diner under the El and Song of the Conquerors. He also reads endlessly about history, politics, and religion.
