Privacy & Data

Welcome to iAuthor. We take our commitment to your privacy extremely seriously and treat any information you supply to us with the utmost care. By respecting your privacy, we believe we will forge a lasting relationship with you. Accordingly, the below privacy & data policy outlines how iAuthor uses and protects personally identifiable information.

Very occasionally, iAuthor may modify the below privacy & data policy to reflect changes in the law. In such cases, we'll update this page to reflect all changes. Changes are effective from the moment they are posted here. Please check this page periodically to ensure that all changes meet with your approval.

This policy is effective from 24th May 2018.

iAuthor strives to comply fully with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union, enforceable on 25th May 2018. Below, we explain what our legal grounds are for handling your personal data, and tell you about the new and strengthened rights you have. While none of these rights directly affect your experience of iAuthor, please take this opportunity to familiarise yourself with GDPR. You are free at any time to ask for clarification. If you do so, and even after clarification decide to exercise your right to withdraw your consent, please be aware that there may be consequences to your full participation in iAuthor's online service, and/or your user-experience on iAuthor.

1. WHAT WE DO WITH THE INFORMATION WE GATHER

We gather information to understand your needs and to provide you with a better quality of service. In particular, we use your information (full name, email address, freely given country/town of residence, freely given personal bio, freely given social media/website links), for the following:

- Internal profile editing for purposes of quality-control and consistency

- Sending you occasional, targeted communications (new website features and tips), where we have expressly asked for your consent

- Market research, analysis and developing statistics

- Payment systems companies (e.g. Stripe), who may transfer your personal data to us for regulatory purposes, to process transactions, to resolve disputes, and for statistical purposes

- In all the above ways, should we ever restructure or sell our business, or have a merger with another entity

2. HOW WE USE COOKIES

Like all online social platforms, iAuthor uses traffic log cookies to identify which site pages are being visited most. Google Analytics (GA) – the most widely used website statistics service – helps us analyse data about web page traffic, and further enhances our website by tailoring it to customers' needs. Google Analytics cookies store anonymous information such as whether a visitor has been to the site before (new or returning visitor), the timestamp of the current visit, and the referrer site that directed the visitor to iAuthor. Google Analytics in no way gives us access to your personally identifiable information.

iAuthor also uses session cookies. These are essential for the site's smooth operation while a user is logged in, allowing you to move from page to page without having to log-in repeatedly. Session cookies are widely used by sophisticated e-commerce sites (for example, to keep track of items that a consumer has added to their shopping cart). Session cookies are transient – Web browsers automatically delete them when the user closes their browser. Additionally, session cookies do NOT collect any personally identifiable information from the user's computer.

Warning: disabling session cookies entirely will prevent you from taking full advantage of the website. Sign-up and book creation will be severely compromised.

3. YOUR RIGHTS UNDER APPLICABLE DATA PROTECTION LAW

- The right to request access to your personal data and information about how it's processed

- The right to move, copy or transfer your personal data ("data portability")

- The right to have your personal data erased (the "right to be forgotten")

- The right to restrict processing of your personal data

- The right to edit your own data held with iAuthor. You can also ask us to change, update or fix your data in certain cases, particularly if it's inaccurate.

- The right to change your communication preferences at any time. Please be aware that you cannot opt-out of receiving security and legal notices.

4. LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES

Our website contains links to other websites. If you use such a link and leave our site, please note that we do not have any control over external websites you visit. Consequently, we cannot be responsible for the protection or privacy of any information you provide while visiting such sites, which may not be GDPR-compliant. You should exercise caution, and look at the privacy & data statement applicable to the website in question.

5. CONTROLLING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties without your express permission. You should be aware that if we are requested by the police or any other regulatory or government authority investigating suspected illegal acitivities to provide your personal information and/or user information, we are bound to do so.

6. THE SECURITY OF YOUR DATA

iAuthor is committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. iAuthor is built on the Joomla! platform, using their most recent LTS. This means it implements all the security features of Joomla! in its core. As such, we can follow and keep up with all non-zero-day exploits in our relevant software, and patch any security issues. As an example, the heartbleed bug was fixed for iAuthor on the same day that the exploit was announced to the public, and a OpenSSL patch was available. iAuthor is protected from internal hacking by FastCGI running in sandboxes, XSS-attacks prevented by HTML-filtering, and database injections prevented by prepared SQL statements.

7. ENTIRE AGREEMENT

This privacy & data policy, together with our terms and conditions, constitutes the entire agreement between you and us in relation to your use of our website, and supersedes all previous agreements in respect of your use of this website.
