The Girl With The Roses: A Tale From The Haunted Auctions

By K. B. Goddard

Horror, Historical fiction, Paranormal, Hybrid & other | Paperback, Hardback, eBook

Charlotte Salt has always dreamt of marrying for love but when she receives a proposal she realises that romance isn't always the deciding factor in the Victorian marriage market. Married to the eligible but secretive George Avery, she finds herself cut off from her family and friends when her husband takes her to live in his isolated Derbyshire home. Trapped in a loveless marriage, she finds her thoughts turning towards her brother’s newly returned friend, the handsome Charles Jameson. In failing health and increasingly troubled by strange sights and sounds, she cannot help recalling Jameson's mysterious warning: "be on your guard." What danger did he foresee? As dark forces surround her, she contemplates the fate of her predecessor. What happened to the first Mrs Avery? In a summer of storms, can anyone save her from the shadows?

K.B. Goddard was born and raised in rural Derbyshire. She spent her youth discovering a love of books, especially old ghost stories. It was then that her fascination with the writing style of The Victorian and Edwardian eras began. Preferring her horror to focus on the unknown and the unnerving rather than the gory she started writing her own historical ghost stories in a bid to capture the spirit of the Victorian tales she admired so much. Her stories have been produced as dramatic readings for The Wicked Library podcast. She also wrote the opening episode for season 2 of The Lift: The Lost Library. Her horror and folklore articles have appeared on The Spooky Isles. In 2016 one of her short stories, A Macabre Melody, was published as part of the first Shadows at the door Anthology. The audio version of the anthology came out in 2017. Biography K.B. Goddard was born and raised in rural Derbyshire. She spent her youth discovering a love of books, especially old ghost stories.
