The Lioness of Brumley Hall: And Her Most Unusual Grandchildren

By Augusta Pearson Benners

Children's, Magical realism, Fantasy, Action & adventure, Young adult | Paperback, eBook

The Lioness of Brumley Hall, the first book in the Urwelt Chronicles series, is a new family oriented action fantasy adventure which introduces you to a magickally gifted family pushing the limits of their powers to battle against dark magickal forces with surprising results. The Urwelt Chronicles is a visionary/ magical realism adventure series for middle grade and adult (grandparents and parents) readers alike where the “grans” learn to use their magickal skills with spiritual discernment and courage for the greater good. Isabelle Clemens, the Lioness and matriarch (Gran) of the family, oversees the world of Brumley Hall and its magick, mystery and mayhem set in north Wales. Brumley Hall is a most unusual manor house hotel run by quirky adults trying to keep the resident children with magickal abilities unsuccessfully under control. It’s packed with generational references, humor, witty wordplay, and enough magickal adventures for all (way too much, as Gran would say). The Lioness also possesses many unique magical abilities that various international spy agencies would like to use. Her refusal to do so is not taken lightly. The Faerie Queen also needs her help in protecting the little faerie princess, Rhiannon, from King Ascaric who would like nothing more than to use her to gain more powers for conquering the faerie realm of Urwelt. A young Buddhist monk also finds a safe haven at the Hall until called to fulfill his destiny. If that were not enough to keep Gran busy, her grandchildren also share her siddhi abilities (teleportation, healing, levitation, time-travel, and conjuring the elements). But great gifts can come at great expense and Gran must ensure that her grandchildren understand the costs. A good sense of humor can often smooth away the rough edges and help from unexpected places is always welcomed. A cast of unlikely characters awaits your immersion into life at Brumley Hall. The second installment, The Lioness and the Faerie Enchantment, is well underway and will be published next year. Fond memories of her relationship with her grandmother and Benners’ relationships with her own two sons serve as the foundation for The Lioness of Brumley Hall. Benners thinks adults should be respected and respectful by not talking down to children. She believes that people are often contrary and “too funny for words” but also kind and loving.
