The Protocols of Uma

By John Brage

Sci-Fi | Paperback, eBook

The Umae race teeters on the edge of extinction. Their primitive blood rival, the Hek, have mysteriously developed technology they should not have. The Journeycraft the Umae have sent into space to find Haven, a safe home away from the Hek, have not returned for generations. A plague is sweeping through their population, poised to deliver the final blow to their failing society. When a Journeycraft does finally appear, the Umaes’ hopes are crushed as the ship is apparently empty. Miraculously, the Journeycraft Starshine returns just as the despondent Umae are ready to abandon hope. Prohibited by an ancient set of laws known as The Protocols from utilizing the Journeyers’ advanced technology on the planet’s surface, the terminally ill leader of the Starshine must lead a ragtag band of exiles on an overwater mission to investigate a clue to Haven’s location found inside the empty Journeycraft. But the Hek are stalking them at every turn, and the faithless are plotting. Worse still, a malevolent alien presence is hiding in plain sight waiting for its chance to convert Uma to its own personal breeding ground. Can the Journeyers regain the faith of their people? Can they solve the mystery of the empty starship and find Haven before it’s too late? And what is the Command Agent of the Starshine willing to sacrifice in order to have the only thing he has ever truly wanted?
