Books that provoke thought

Books that go beyond entertaining: that provoke empathy, make the reader think. Books that stay with you long after finishing them.

Of 'Wood, Talc and Mr. J' :

"This book reminds me of the best fiction of the 1950s and early sixties, when the meaning of life was the only quest that mattered. In it, you'll see and experience things you never thought about, things you should think about.

Read this book about honesty and compassion and misery and transcendence."

John, hello. Just to impart with you, I read a book for no other reason. If I can't take something 'tangible' away from a book then I don't bother, and so am quite particular about what I read. Each to their, of course. Great theme, thanks.

Do you like to have thoughts provoked, emotions stirred by what you read? Experience through a book life's sometimes complicated issues? I'd love to hear your comments.
