Who not served from high ends be, Of life by aid of self-knowledge truly, Exertion, forbearance, steadiness be, In virtue is called wise irrefutably. - 46 - The marks of wise men unfailingly, Loyalty to acts, of praise not worry, Rejection of what blameable be, In faith, reverence submerged totally. - 47 - Who anger, joy, nor false modesty, Nor stupefaction, pride, nor vanity, Withhold from life’s high ends truly, Is ever considered wise certainly. - 48 - Whose intended acts, counsels truly, Remain concealed from the enemies, Whose acts known after action only, Is measured a wise person undeniably. - 49 - Whose proposed actions never do be, Obstructed by heat, cold or prosperity, Or by fear of attachment or adversity, Is considered wise unquestionably. - 50 - Whose judgment detached from desire be, Who follows both virtue and gain plainly, Picks ends useable in both worlds only, Who ignores the pleasure – the wise be. - 51 - Who exert to the best of their capacity, Act also to the best of their own ability, Who disregard nothing trivial actually, Be known as wise unquestionably, - 52 - Who pursue objects with judgment truly, Understands quickly, listens patiently, Wastes not breath on others activities, Possess foremost mark of wisdom truly. - 53 - Who strive not for unattainable really, Grieve not for what lost and gone be, Whose mind clouded amid mishap be, Have the intellect with wisdom truly. - 54 - Who strives, what started till done be, Who never wastes time assuredly, Who has his self under control fully, Ever regarded wise incontrovertibly. - 55 - Who delights in honest deeds only, Acts for happiness and prosperity, Who never sneers at what good be, They are the true wise categorically. - 56 - Exults not at honour, not agitated be, Grieves not at slights, who cool be, As a lake in Ganga unaffected truly, As wise ise reckoned unquestionably. - 57 - Who knows nature of all life clearly, All things subject to destruction be, Aware of connections of acts clearly, Adept in means knowledge, wise be. - 58 - Who talks on varied subjects clearly, Knows reasoning and speaks boldly, Has genius, can interpret lucidly, That person is reckoned wise truly. - 59 - Whose studies reason regulated be, And reason follows scriptures truly, Never abstains from respect clearly, To them who are good - wise
