What's Left

By Jnana Hodson

General fiction, New adult fiction, Literary fiction | eBook

Recovering from deep emotional loss can take a lifetime. In this novel, everyone in one extended Greek-American family loses something, especially an 11-year-old daughter. In her long struggle to recover whatever she can of her father after he vanishes in an avalanche halfway around the globe, Cassia slowly comes to see the world through his eyes, thanks to the trove of photos he left in disarray. One by one, three aunts play crucial roles in her growth, along with her siblings and circle of cousins, the Squad. Everything comes into play when it's her turn to fight for their survival.

Veteran journalist Jnana Hodson has long been fascinated by the influence of subcultures within a dominant society. For him, that's included Quakers, hippies, Mennonites, and Amish over the years, along with Greek-Americans, Gypsy (Roma), and Indonesians more recently. His poetry and fiction have appeared in literary journals on five continents.
