Yoshida: Death of a Salaryman

By Matt Durrant

Sci-Fi | eBook

The only man who can stop World War 3 just stepped in front of a train. Osamu Yoshida, a middle-aged office drone, is conscripted into a new government program to boost Japan's birthrate - but he takes the hard way out. He wakes up in 1987 and relives his university days - punk rock, easy sex and the toxic love triangle between his best friend Kensuke and his new girlfriend, Asako. But just as he's getting comfortable, a mysterious young woman warns him of his destiny - to destroy the future government and avert a devastating nuclear war. Yoshida wakes up in a hospital bed in 2012, not sure if he's a revolutionary or a lunatic. Before long he's tangled up in a terrorist organisation that uncovers a sickening conspiracy. And he has to choose between the quiet life he's always wanted – or his terrifying responsibility to the future. Winner of the 2014 Sheffield Fiction Slam.
