Each section features a brief history of each congregation plus current & vintage images (color and b&w) of the various buildings they have used up to the present day. Mr. Preisler is an independent researcher, author and documentarian residing in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia near the nation's capital. A graduate of the University of Florida and Mary Washington College, Julian has a background in archives administration and historic preservation. The son of Holocaust Survivors from Germany & the Czech Republic, Julian is a native of Detroit, Michigan and has been interested in Jewish history/genealogy and synagogue architecture since his teen years. His most recent books include America's Pioneer Jewish Congregations; The Synagogues of Central & Western Pennsylvania; Jewish West Virginia; and Historic Synagogues of Philadelphia & The Delaware Valley. His next book, to be published later this year, will be The Synagogues of Eastern Pennsylvania. Some of his photographs have appeared in Moment Magazine, Southern Jewish History, Western States Jewish History and in the book Down Home: Jewish Life in North Carolina. In addition to his interest in synagogue architecture and history, Julian is in the process of creating a database of known Holocaust memorials, monuments and museums in North America.
