Dementia and Mum

By Michael Fassio

Biography & memoir, Health & well-being, General non-fiction, Psychology & philosophy, Personal growth, Education & teaching | Paperback, eBook

This true story centres on my mother's battle to stave off the inevitable decline associated with dementia. I soon found myself enlisted in the struggle. The help offered was natural enough as a son – but I couldn't have anticipated the extent to which my patience, stamina and mental strength would all be tested. Hopefully, you too may share in some of my tears and laughter along the way. The Michael Fassio website www.michaelfassio.co.uk provides reviews from the 4 charities listed below as well as Marianne Talbot (Oxford University), Jo Brand (comedienne) and my second cousin, the actor Alfred Molina (An Education, Spiderman 2 and many more films). 50% of the profits will be donated to the following charities each year: Age UK, Alzheimer's Society, Crossroads Care and Dementia UK.

Michael was born to Polish and Italian parents in September 1955. He has an MSc in Economics, having studied at the University of East Anglia and Birkbeck College. His article, 'Beware of False Profits', was published in the Economic Review in January 1989. He is currently teaching part-time in several schools, namely Gunnersbury, St Mark's and Gumley House, as well as the University of Westminster. 'Dementia and Mum – Who Really Cares?' is his first book.

Really inspiring book, coupled with a compelling interview. It's something that deserves far greater attention, as the number of 50 somethings caring for 80+ parents is going to increase, as we all live longer...
