Dust Rising: A Post Apocalyptic Tale

By Graham Toseland

Sci-Fi, Horror | eBook

When the dominance that mankind had exerted on the world for thousands of years ended, it was merciless, wiping out almost 100% of the human population. It was merciful in many ways too. Britain went from an overcrowded island of over 70 million people to just a few hundred abandoned souls in little more than the blink of an eye. That story was repeated in every continent and every country across the globe. In the UK a few scattered individuals and family groups would wake from sleep facing a world that would be familiar on the surface but radically different from the one they went to bed in. Some would make it and thrive, many would not. Those o f us that thought about it seemed somehow to imagine that it would be a disease or a virus that would finish humankind off, or maybe a comet shattering the planet and wiping us out like billions of tiny dinosaurs. Perhaps it might be a man-made disaster. A nuclear bomb, global warming, over population or even artificial intelligence. The reality was that there were no warnings, no explosions, no catastrophe, no panic, no zombie apocalypse, no walking poisonous plants, no invasion force from a galaxy far, far away and for very nearly everybody, no idea of exactly what had happened. It was just the end. At least it almost was, and there was no time to worry about what caused the fall, because surviving , coming together and finding their loved ones, was all that mattered to those left behind. Having survived was just the beginning of a battle, for life, for love and against ancient forces none of them could have known would rise again.

Graham Toseland was born in Leicester in the UK in 1960 and currently resides in the depths of Northamptonshire in the UK. He enjoys writing post-apocalyptic and Sci Fi novels with less emphasis on violence and more emphasis on the human relationships and how they might change under extreme conditions. He also makes a point of referencing Zombie literature, film or TV without having zombies in his books although there will always be a bit of gore for the horror loving reader. He lives with his partner and two kids, both teenagers, neither of which are fans of the post apocalyptic or Sci-Fi genres. Sadly they got their mothers genes in that respect. The two family dogs, Basil the Labradoodle and Fozzie the Jack Russell/Bichon Frise cross are also not interested in his writing, preferring to sleep until car keys are rattled and a walk is in prospect. He published his first book Dust Rising in August 2015 which will be followed sometime early 2016 with the next instalment of the Back to Wildwood series.
