In the Dark: A Life and Times in a Movie Theater

By Scott Cherney

Biography & memoir, General non-fiction | Paperback, eBook

Most people have a memory bank. This guy has a movie theater inside his head. IN THE DARK: A LIFE AND TIMES IN A MOVIE THEATER is Scott Cherney's anecdotal history of one of life's great pastimes: Going to the movies. This SPECIAL EDITION contains new and updated material chronicling the misadventures of a self-proclaimed film geek who grew up watching movies at the same time the movies were growing up themselves. IN THE DARK recalls such cinematic events as the last days of the Saturday afternoon kiddie matinee, sex education on and off the screen at the drive-in, the incredible period of 1970s filmmaking, and the rise and fall of the skin flick (pun intended). The SPECIAL EDITION of IN THE DARK is a funny, sometimes poignant trip down Memory Lane, now with more potholes than ever.

After landing on Earth in Stockton, California, Scott Cherney wore a lot of hats in his life and times, among them, a cowboy hat as a weekend gunslinger at the Pollardville Ghost Town, a western amusement park that housed sets from the William Wyler film The Big Country. He then moved over to the Palace Showboat Dinner Theater becoming a triple threat actor/writer/director of several melodrama/vaudeville stage productions. Cherney was also an award-winning stage actor with has appeared in such films as Omega Cop and Under Arrest. In 1987, Scott was the winner of the one and only Stockton Stand-Up Comedy Competition. Cherney is also the author of the road rage novel Red Asphalt, the true travel tome known as Please Hold Thumbs: A Not So Round Trip to South Africa, a collection of comedy sketches entitled Now THAT'S Funny and the western comedy romance Song of the Canyon Kid.
