Journey to the Land of Look Behind

By Denise Laidler

Literary fiction, New adult fiction, Women's fiction | Paperback, eBook

Talented, driven Indigo Wade is ensconced in the rigors of her frenetic life. Hemmed in by disillusionment with her career, expectations of an unyielding mother and bloodless matches with her lover, she yearns for a life of her own design. Through her discontent, a whiskey soaked voice from her childhood pulls her back to her home Jamaica, from which she has long been disconnected - to face the father who abandoned her. Old wounds are ripe for picking. The charismatic, mercurial patriarch Capo Wade unveils his own agenda for survival that catapults the family into an quagmire that threatens to sever the frayed vestiges of their relationship. What begins as a reluctant trip home precipitates a journey of exploration and emancipation. Balanced on the threshold of two worlds, neither of which she fully belongs, Indigo is an outsider to the battle-pitted legacy of women who are more strangers than sisters.
