Mind Over Bullies

By D.K. Smith

Young adult, Crime & mystery | Paperback, eBook

"From the opening car chase, this book grabs readers and holds on as it blossoms into a complex action-adventure with multiple intertwining plots. Complex, layered YA that easily appeals to adults, too. In this intricate YA tale, a group of teenagers with special skills unite to confront bullying, though they end up fighting crime, murder, and terrorism. Eventually, MOB evolves into a true crime-fighting band of superheroes. Reminiscent of the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, the teens outshine adults. They operate in their own world more or less autonomously, sometimes cooperating with grownups, other times circumventing them. Filled with numerous side plots involving family history, a mysterious corporation, a rare disease, terrorist plots, and more, Smith's tale ties it all together seamlessly while continually sounding the bullying theme, which intensifies from everyday school harrying to a device for recruiting criminals. The conclusion sets up the next MOB exploit." - Kirkus Reviews

Taylor Swift’s Bold Defense of Bullied Fan Reminiscent of Lead Character in New YA Novel. Author Reaches Out to Swift for Help in Creating Awareness of Novel.

10 August

Author D.K. Smith has taken to social media with the hopes of reaching multi-talented recording artist, Taylor Swift, to help him spread the word about bullying beginning with novel’s release Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA – Taylor Swift may currently be in the midst of her 1989 world tour, but Mind Over Bullies author D.K. Smith is determined to reach her to speak on behalf of his Bullying Awareness campaign which begins in just over three short weeks with the worldwide release of his superhero themed, YA, mystery novel. MOB or Mind Over Bullies: A MOB Forms will be made available through the Amazon Kindle store worldwide on August 31, 2015 Why Taylor Swift? “I read a story where one of Taylor’s fans was being attacked online, basically cyber bullying, and Taylor fired back at the would-be attacker. I could only smile,” Smith said. “That was exactly the kind of thing Margo would have done.” The Margo to whom Smith referred is Margo Rios, the lead character from his soon to be released debut novel Mind over Bullies: A MOB Forms. Upon reading the media report Smith was struck with an idea that he felt was worth pursuing. Why not ask Swift to help tell the world about Margo and the MOB? A 2009 Teen Vogue article gave further insight into Swift’s own encounters with bullying in junior high school. Bullying on points ranging from her appearance to her love of country music, insights which explain her passion for the subject of bullying. Other popular artists such as Demi Lavato and Miley Cyrus have been equally as candid about their pre-celebrity encounters with bullying, joining their voices with scores of other celebrities speaking out about what has now become a worldwide epidemic. According to a 2014 U.S. High School Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 14.8% of students surveyed nationwide admit being electronically bullied (including through e-mail, chat rooms, instant messaging, websites, or texting during the 12 months before the survey) as reported by anti-bullying website NoBullying.com. The largest portion of reported victims are female. The statistics on female bullying victims are what played a large role in Smith’s decision to create a strong female lead character for the Mind Over Bullies series. Smith remains undeterred in his quest to seek out Ms. Swift. “I have sent messages via Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram. I know she is busy, so I’m just hoping for a Tweet or Instagram shout out in her spare time,” Smith said lightheartedly. Mind Over Bullies: A MOB Forms, will be available through the Amazon Kindle store for $3.99 on August 31, 2015 so there is still time left for a response from Swift. Smith promises to keep up his attempts at trying to reach her until then.
