Fred Strange was born in Simi Valley, California. An Army brat, he spent the majority of his elementary school years living in Kansas, Germany, and Oklahoma before returning to California. From the age of six, Fred wanted to be a professional recording artist and learned how to play the piano (badly) and even write songs. In addition to this, Fred also wrote little picture-book stories up until the third grade, when his teacher in Germany forced him to write from prompts rather than his own imagination, thus all but destroying his prose writing for the next 20 years. Unable to secure a band to play with him, much less the recording career that he hoped to come with it, Fred earned a BA in History from UC Santa Barbara, a teaching credential from Cal State Northridge, and focused his creativity back to prose literature, specifically in Science-Fiction and Fantasy. Fred wrote a few short fiction pieces on a Star Wars fan message board, Nightly.net, before starting on his first major project in 2001 titled Starchild: Prophecy. Completing the book in 2003, Fred took about 10 years trying to figure out how he would publish it, not being knowledgeable at the time of how publishing agents and companies worked, and not aware of the growth of e-books and self-publishing. Fred has written one full novel, Starchild: Prophecy, is working on no less than three more, and has several short stories, most of them collected in The Best I Could Do at the Time Vols. 1 & 2.
