Olive Branches Don't Grow On Trees

By Grace Mattioli

General fiction | Paperback, eBook

Olive Branches Don’t Grow On Trees is the first book in a trilogy about the Greco’s-a quirky, New Jersey Italian family. Frank, the family patriarch, is a loud, contentious drunk, but beneath his rough exterior is a boy who saddens at the last sip of a milkshake. Donna, the matriarch, is a neurotic intellectual who has recently left Frank. Cosmo, the eldest son, is a brilliant underachiever, completely unconcerned with what others think of him, while his sister, Angie, is a beauty queen who is completely preoccupied with appearances. The youngest Greco, Vince, is a radically left wing high school student who is determined to save the world. And then there's 23 year old Silvia, an idealistic bohemian artist who tries to unite her family in hopes of saving them from becoming devolving into families similar to those of her parents, in which siblings are estranged from each other. She knows that if she can only gather them in the same room together where they can look into each others' eyes that they will remember that they love each other. Although Olive Branches Don't Grow On Trees addresses such serious issues as dysfunctional family relations and alcoholism, it is written in the humorous fiction genre. Donna gets sexually harassed by The Three Little Pigs in Disney World; Vince thinks that the recent preponderance of war stories is a government conspiracy. So you’ll be entertained while gaining insight on things like forgiveness and peacemaking.
