I've been going through some 8mm films my dad made and had them recorded to DVDs. This one in particular had me laughing so hard. I thought I'd share it with this community. I'm normally very private, but after reviewing the film clip, I added some music and thought this is a memory I'd love to share. This encompasses the reality of life. You fall down and pick yourself back up and keep trying. And if there is some laughter along the way, the better for it.

This is what I want from readers of my book. I want them to relate to the main character, Elaine. I want them to understand that looking for unconditional love sometimes leads people down dark paths. I want them to understand the emotional pain of having Elaine's greatest moments in life belittled by family, friends, and co-workers. I want them to understand that no matter how hard Elaine tries to please those around her, it is never good enough. I want them to understand that what we learn as children, whether it is right or wrong, is carried with us throughout our life and it is next to impossible to break deep imbedded habits and beliefs.
I had one reader tell me, "no one could be that gullible". Well, guess what? There are people (women) that gullible. I have met them. Everything that happens to Elaine has happened to either myself or someone I know. All of the events are true.

I was so naïve about my book. I just knew that the world would be ready to read my words. I just knew that once it was published, the sales would soar. I just knew that my name (pen name actually) would be on everyone's lips. I just knew the public would be in anticipation for a sequel. I just knew my life would spin in another direction. Well, none of these things occurred. I was so disappointed, initially. But I have come to terms with the idea that it takes time to build an audience. I understand now, that I have to make it happen, no one is going to do it for me. Word of mouth is powerful. Slow and steady is now my mantra.

Even though my husband and I were not married, or even dating when I began writing my book, he has been my biggest supporter. When I decided to finally look into publishing my creative outlet, I met with no resistance or negativity. To me, this is priceless. I was in a negative marriage for 17 years and the idea of writing a book or doing anything creative was something that was discouraged. My only job was to take care of him and support all of his dreams. The breaking point came, the marriage ended and the creativity began. With no barriers, the book practically wrote itself. Not only did I reinvent myself through writing, but in all aspects of my life. What a difference a day makes

Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird), Emily Bronte (Wuthering Heights), Margaret Mitchell (Gone With the Wind), J.D.Salinger (The Catcher in the Rye), and Boris Pasternak (Doctor Zhivago) are all one hit wonders. So what do I have in common with such masterpiece writers? At this point in time, I have written one book. It is by no means a "hit" or a great piece of literature. But I will include myself in this circle because these writers had a story to tell and so did I. It is a small comparison, but I'll take it.

I am in a melancholy mood. My 40th high school reunion is this year and there are so many classmates that didn't make it to this point. Some were because of drugs, some were because of illnesses. Those that died from drug usage make me angry. They threw the gift of life away. Those that died from an illness would, I assume, gladly accept that life that was thrown away. Looking through the yearbook reminds me of the hopes and dreams we had for our lives. My bucket list is ever changing, and I have accomplishments that were never on it. Life is what happens when you are making plans!
