The little shoeshine boy

By Dominique Curtiss

Children's | eBook

Kim is a little boy. He works for grumpy Mr Tran, a mean old man who uses the poor children of Hanoi to make as much money as possible for himself. It’s the monsoon season and Kim is wandering the streets of the city clutching his shoe cleaning box. The steamy heat is so oppressive that the last thought on people’s minds is wearing shoes. Empty-handed, he makes his way back to the shop, but his life is turned upside-down after a very strange meeting at the side of Lake Hoan Kiem. A beautiful story that combines a Vietnamese legend with the reality of child poverty.
