Walker, or What Happened to the Tail of an American Indian in Tucson

By Lourdes Curaçao

Comedy & satire, Literary fiction | Paperback, eBook

Showcasing one of the most unusual and potent story-telling voices on the market, "Walker" is the first published novel by First Nations author, spoken-word performer and musician, Lourdes Curaçao. A satire based on true-life events and people in her performance community, "Walker" revisits a way of life that disappeared into local legend at the turn of the 21st century, centered around a Goth nightclub called Asylum. Filled with a carnival of living parodies, "Walker" pays homage to Tucson's self-invented Tucson Underground performance artist community in the era of the slam poet. Kenista Noah Walker begins her story by taking a long walk home after a social disaster. Along the way, her road becomes more and more zig-zagged as friends, family, allies and enemies alike become entangled in resistance to downtown gentrification and converge in a blazing inferno on one defiant night.
