Zechariah Fleming

By Kevin Jensen

Crime & mystery, General fiction | eBook

Ten year old Zechariah is thrilled to discover that Craig and Kara Fleming—the parents he's always heard about—are alive! He sets out to find them, but when he does, Craig and Kara are bewildered by his appearance: they were never able to have children. Yet Zach bears the exact name they had hoped to give their son. What is more, both the police officer escorting him to their home and the school down the street believe he belongs to them! Thinking he could be a relative, the Flemings take Zach in long enough to try to locate his true family. But as they search, their confusion grows. Mystery surrounds him. Did he come to them by someone’s ill intent or by a miracle—or both? And how are they to deal with his youthful confidence that he belongs with them? As they work through the mystery of his appearance, Craig and Kara's lives are filled with Zach's joy at the wonders of baseball, French fries, and the refreshing Seattle rain. But his greatest delight is simply being with his “parents” at last. Dare Craig and Kara disillusion him? Dare they reciprocate his misplaced enthusiasm? And just how far can they permit themselves to fall in love with this child until they know where he came from? If, in their hearts, they do take him to be their own, will they be able to find the means to keep him before his past returns to snatch him away? And who, lurking just beyond their sight, is that man with the thin, black gloves?
